– December 14, 2015 – The HealthAlliance Foundation contributed nearly $30,000 to fund the purchase for HealthAlliance Hospitals of six new devices that easily locate veins in people's arms, legs, hands and feet so that doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals can avoid sticking patients with needles multiple times.
The VeinViewer Flex devices, made by Christie Medical Holdings Inc., use infra-red cameras to highlight the veins and project their image in real time onto the skin.
HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus in Kingston now uses five of the handheld vein illuminators and the hospital's Mary's Avenue Campus in Kingston now uses the remaining viewer.
With the VeinViewer Flex, medical professionals can locate and access a patient's vein on the first attempt at inserting a needle.
"The staff members are very happy with these machines. They allow nurses to find difficult veins in our patients, and this makes needle sticks much more comfortable," said HealthAlliance Chief Nursing Officer Sandra Horan. "We greatly appreciate the assistance from the foundation!"
"Our focus is on funding technology, treatment and training initiatives at HealthAlliance," said foundation Executive Director Steffen Kraehmer. "These VeinViewer devices demonstrate our commitment to increasing patient comfort and satisfaction and helping staff do their jobs more effectively."
