MARGARETVILLE, Nov. 4, 2015 — Mountainside Residential Care Center in Margaretville is on track to receiving its seventh consecutive five-star quality rating from Medicare — the best rating possible — after being scored among the best in New York from the state Department of Health.
The Medicare- and Medicaid-certified nursing home scored highly in the direct care-deficiency survey's health results, staffing levels and quality measures, Administrator Philip Mehl said.
"There was one minor, non-clinical issue that we've already
RESOLVED:" he said. The department, on average, cites nursing homes for eight to nine deficiencies.
The state's top scoring of the 82-bed skilled nursing facility, with 115 clinical and administrative staff, followed a recertification inspection Aug. 17-20.
The unannounced inspection, conducted of all nursing homes in the state every nine to 15 months, was done by a team from the health department's Division of Quality and Surveillance for Nursing Homes. The team was composed of trained healthcare professionals in nursing, nutrition, social work, pharmacy and sanitation.
After the rigorous four-day review, the team issued a report in September, enabling Mountainside — part of HealthAlliance of the Hudson Valley healthcare system — to continue with its five-star quality rating.
"It is immensely gratifying to see our commitment to treating every resident and staff person as valuable and unique individuals with rich histories and gifts translating into this type of survey results, yet again," Mehl said.
Mountainside, consistently ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the "Best Nursing Homes" in New York, is also ranked a "Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality" by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.
