news item

The Heart & Vascular Institute, a member of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), recently expanded its robust suite of heart and vascular care offerings to network affiliate HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus with two distinguished cardiologists who will care for patients in Kingston.

Cardiologists Paul A. Hanna, MD, and Syed Naqvi, MD -- who already provide cardiology services at MidHudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, also a member of WMCHealth -- now provide consultative, diagnostic and preventive adult cardiology services, as well as inpatient cardiac and critical care at HealthAlliance Hospital: Broadway Campus.

"We are pleased to bring this top-ranked team of cardiologists to HealthAlliance," said Julio A. Panza, Chief of Cardiology at WMCHealth. "Kingston-area patients now have access to the broadest possible range of solutions from a team of world-class physicians, supported by some of the most highly skilled and experienced nurses and technicians in the region."

WMCHealth's Heart & Vascular Institute is committed to providing the highest quality comprehensive cardiovascular care and expertise to residents of the Hudson Valley, close to home, in the communities where they live.

The new HealthAlliance cardiology team will see patients for conditions including heart valve disease, coronary artery disease, acute coronary syndrome, angina, hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmia, valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease.

HealthAlliance Hospital patients will also benefit from access to a broad range of advanced cardiovascular care services at WMCHealth's flagship, Westchester Medical Center.

The opening of the new cardiology practice follows the opening of the WMCHealth Physicians surgical practice in Lake Katrine. The Lake Katrine office offers general, vascular, thoracic, neurological and breast surgery services, as well as abdominal surgical oncology.

Dr. Hanna, formerly with the Permanente Medical Group in Walnut Creek, Calif., received his medical degree from New York Medical College and completed an internal medicine residency at Bellevue Hospital Center through the New York University School of Medicine and a cardiology fellowship at Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey. He is certified in cardiovascular disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Naqvi, formerly with New York Cardiac Care P.C., earned his medical degree from King Edward Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan, now King Edward Medical University, and completed a residency in general and cardiovascular surgery at Lahore's Mayo Hospital. He completed a fellowship at Sinai Samaritan Medical Center in Milwaukee, now the Aurora Sinai Medical Center, through the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. Dr. Naqvi is board certified in cardiovascular disease and nuclear cardiology and has extensive experience in echocardiography. He has practiced noninvasive cardiology in Poughkeepsie since 2005.

WMCHealth's Heart & Vascular Institute is the Hudson Valley region's largest multispecialty cardiac and vascular services practice dedicated to providing comprehensive, high-quality care to residents across the region. The Institute brings together many of the nation's best physicians in cardiology, cardiovascular surgery, cardiothoracic surgery and pediatric cardiovascular services, practicing in state-of-the-art facilities in Kingston and around the region.
